Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School is delivering the empowerED Learning Hub, a purpose-built four-storey education facility designed to support contemporary, hands-on and project-based learning from Early Learning through to Year 12.

ABK Fire Engineering was engaged to provide specialist fire engineering services for the new Learning Hub and associated external works. ABK developed compliant and practical fire safety strategies tailored to a complex educational environment incorporating high-occupancy collaboration spaces, specialist laboratories, maker and fabrication areas, media studios, cafés, and multipurpose rooms across multiple levels.

The fire engineering scope addressed safe egress, occupant load management, fire compartmentation, and the integration of life safety systems within flexible and highly serviced learning spaces. Performance-based solutions were applied where appropriate to support architectural intent, operational functionality, and long-term safety outcomes, while ensuring full compliance with relevant Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.

Through early coordination with the design and consultant team, ABK Fire Engineering delivered robust, education-specific fire safety solutions that support the School’s vision for innovative, adaptable learning environments while prioritising student and staff safety.
